On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am pleased to present the Proceeding of the 5th International Conference on Computing and Applied Informatics (ICCAI). The event, organized by The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universitas Sumatera Utara, is the 5th of the conference series. In this proceeding, we present 49 outstanding works from authors from 6 different countries. With the acceptance rate of 59%, we are confident that these manuscripts are able to fulfill the high standard of an international conference. These works have been through a though review process by our international board and editorial team and has been revised accordingly. Our highest appreciation to every author that has been participated in this event and has collaborated tirelessly with our editorial team to meet the high standard that we expect in this conference.This event is one of our many efforts to establish our faculty as a reputable education institution internationally. As part of Universitas Sumatera Utara, who recently just listed in the QS World University Rankings, we are obligated to contribute to the global research effort to develop the society. However, over the past few months, the pandemic limits our interaction significantly. Conducting an international conference while maintaining the quality of the event can be challenging. Thus, we have decided to perform this event both on-site and online and set up a few new rules to preserve the quality we have been established in the previous conferences. In managing the student study process, there is a pattern that occurs repeatedly every year. The recurring data will produce information in the form of student profiles, entry paths, student academic results, study period, average graduate-level and much other information as long as students take the process of teaching and learning activities. This research was conducted to predict student performance and e-learning satisfaction at the Computer Science department in Mulawarman University using the Association Rules method and Importance Performance Analysis. The sample in this study was 389 data of computer science graduate students. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the graduation rate of computer science students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, as follows; students who have graduated most have a GPA interval of 2.76 - 3.50 with male gender and take a study period of more than 6 years which has a support value of 0.321 and a confidence value of 0.628. Their perception of e-learning according to IPA coordinates community, collaboration, materials, social media, knowledge, synthesis, application, understanding, multimedia, evaluation, video, and news in quadrant II has a high level of importance with a relatively high level of performance and must be maintained.

This paper aims to study and address the phenomenon of low level of students in the university compared to their level in the secondary stage, through the study sample represented in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Al-Neelain University (Batch 2019) using the statistical package (SPSS) and using its outputs to help decision makers to choose optimal solutions to address this phenomenon.

This paper describes the programming courses curriculum implemented by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), University of Malaya (UM) from the year 1995 to the present time. It explains the idea and logic behind the various programming courses offered at the faculty, the changes that the programming courses went through throughout the years, and also the future plans that FCSIT shall take with regards to the programming courses offered. It also discusses the students' performance in the core programming courses throughout the years; taking into account the feedback from companies that offered placements to students during their industrial training, and also their examination results.

Possibilities for Organizing Group Work for Computer Science Students

The importance of using Information and Communication Technology can increase our role in the Modern Era among academics, which is one of the driving factors to be able to compete in the digital world. The use of technology is not only for social media, but the use of technology has an important role in the world of work today. The increasingly rapid development of technology has created many changes and updates in every field. One of the applications most widely used and needed by society is Data Science. Data Science is a multi-disciplinary science that is very widely used in both exact and social fields. To make your job search easier, Data Scientist certification is required. This of course requires someone who is competent in their field. Today's young generations should be worthy of having these competencies. Based on the above, the lecturers at the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Mercu Buana contributed to providing a coaching understanding in the application of Information and Communication Technology to increase knowledge in the Modern Era among academics so that they can equip the younger generation to have certification in the field of information technology, especially Data Scientists. This activity or training is a form of concern and is also one of the duties as a lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science who understands information technology, especially in the field of Data Science.

In this paper, learning and knowledge control systems developed by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology of the Riga Technical University are described. These systems are used in teaching various subjects on different study programs and specialties. The paper also presents results of use of computer systems in student self-study and self-control. Students could freely choose, whether or not to use these systems during their studies. We focused on two scenarios of non-compulsory use of computer systems, namely with a motivating system or without one. In both cases students actively used computer systems for self-control and self-study. Our research shows that using computer systems for both knowledge control and study (as opposed to knowledge control alone) increased knowledge level of all students, regardless of their overall performance.

The present research study aims to determine the virtual teaching campus’s effect on the competencies of teachers of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Systems and Computer Science of the Universidad Nacional Jose Faustino Sanchez Carrion - 2017. In addition, the research is applied, deductive method, quasi-experimental design of longitudinal cut and explanatory level. It was determined for the variable Virtual Teaching Campus dimensions such as technological infrastructure, quality of content, and web system, and the variable competencies of teachers the dimensions ICT and social competencies and methodological strategies. In every university, they are vital to improving the quality of teaching. On the other hand, an observation guide was applied as an instrument, validated by expert judgment reaching 91.4% and with acceptable reliability obtained through Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.981. The population comprises 65 teachers of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Systems and Computer Science; we used a census sample because the population was small. Furthermore, the Student’s T statistical method was applied. The results obtained show, with 95% confidence, that there is a high positive significant influence (p=0.000 and α=0.05) produced by the use of the Virtual Teaching Campus on the competencies of the teachers of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Systems and Computer Science of the Universidad Nacional Jose Faustino Sanchez Carrion - 2017.

Extended-Reality Technologies: An Overview of Emerging Applications in Medical Education and Clinical Care.

Information technology development brings a very broad impact on human life. With this Model View Controller (MVC) concept, information system development could be developed in accordance needs of the user’s information system development and be able to adapt the development in the organization. Needs of fast and precise and adaptive information system information is needed in this modern era when everything needs to be fast. Faculty of computer science (FIK) Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veterans Jakarta (UPNVJ) as one work unit under the government agency, has State-owned inventories to support all activities to carry out the Tri Dharma or the higher education pillars, especially in the field of education. The state-owned inventories or devices are available in FIK such as monitors, printers, LCD, mouse, etc. For continuity of this educational process, the state-owned inventories must be maintained. Therefore, in this research, the researchers will develop an information system to document the state-owned inventory records for helping the management of the state-owned inventories in the faculty of computer science at UPN Veteran Jakarta. The information system was built using the waterfall method and using the PHP programming language and MySQL database running on a server. This information system provides features to manage users, manage components, access system logs, access system settings, manage devices, manage the location, and access reports. The system that has been developed has also passed the eligibility assessment for all aspects of both visual communication aspects, software engineering aspects, and usability aspects.

The development of information technology brings us into a new world, a world where communication plays an important role in life. A variety of facilities are provided to meet all communication needs. The Faculty of Computer Science is one of the Faculties at Pasir Pengaraian University, at the Faculty of Computer Science also provides various information about teaching staff (lecturers), lectures, teaching schedules and so on. Management of information at this time is by the archive system on file folders with a long search process. Based on these problems a special lecturer profile information system was created at the Faculty of Computer Science. In the system built this has the advantage that the search time does not require a long time and can be accessed by all parties. With this system can help all parties who need lecturer data.

The diversity of mobile hardware and software platforms is one of the major challenges in developing applications for mobile devices such as smartphones. Mobile applications are developed on platform like MS Windows or Linux, and deployed on a totally different platform such as a BlackBerry smartphone. Integrating mobile devices into computing education can raise the level of excitement for students, and satisfaction with the curriculum [1]. This workshop will help participants understand the different echnologies that can be used for mobile application development, and the opportunities and challenges in integrating mobile devices into the computing curricula. The workshop is of particular interest to Computer Science, Information Technology, and Engineering faculty interested in integrating smartphones and mobile application development into their courses.

Computational thinking (CT) skills are increasingly important in education to prepare students for the challenges of the digital age. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) have been introduced as immersive technologies that have the potential to enhance CT skills through more interactive learning experiences. However, there is still a gap in understanding the effectiveness of these technologies in supporting the development of CT, particularly in different levels of education and disciplines. Although several studies have highlighted the benefits of AR and VR in education, no systematic review integrates these findings to identify advantages, challenges, and opportunities for further implementation. Therefore, this study conducted a systematic review based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines by analyzing 25 empirical studies (AR=17, VR=8) obtained from the Scopus database (2008-2024). The analysis addresses four key research questions: (1) the current state of AR/VR in CT development, (2) their advantages, (3) implementation challenges, and (4) future research directions. The results show that AR is more widespread than VR at various levels of education, with dominance in higher education followed by secondary and primary schools. Computer science is the main field of application of AR and VR, while AR is also widely applied in mathematics to increase interest and problem-solving. A total of 11 studies reported significant impacts of these technologies on CT, with AR being superior in increasing student motivation and engagement, as well as aiding in problem-solving and debugging. In contrast, VR provides a more immersive learning experience by strengthening concept understanding, especially in programming and recursion. However, several obstacles in the application of AR and VR, such as hardware limitations, costs, and user skills, affect the effectiveness of these technologies in the learning environment. This study also identified potential future research, including the exploration of VR in primary and kindergarten education, the application of VR in non-computer science fields, and the efficient use of these technologies in supporting the CT process. This study provides more precise insights into the optimal ways of utilizing AR and VR in developing CT skills. It is a reference for educators, policymakers, and researchers in supporting CT learning.

The current study underlines the main problems students deal with in the first academic year at University POLITEHNICA of Timişoara (UPT) while adjusting to the higher education environment. The adaptation challenges were investigated through 14 panel discussions. The topic assigned was “Students’ adaptation problems in Romanian higher education”. The target group included students in their first academic year, studying at the Faculty of Computer Science (CS), Electrical Engineering and Power Engineering (EE&PE); Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ETIT); Industrial Chemistry and Environment Engineering (ICEE); Mechanics (ME); Production Management and Transport (PMT); Architecture and Urbanism (AU), also doing the Psychological and Pedagogical Training Program. Each panel discussion was made up of 20 students, all 14 panel discussions summing up 280 students, out of which 158 female and 122 male students. The outcomes of the research show that students face different adaptation challenges that may result in a poor insertion into the academic system and education dropout. The adaptation problems identified by the students were diverse: accommodation and food; financial problems; school timetables and calendars (seminars, courses, laboratories and other instructional activities); teacher-student relationship; the teaching-learning-evaluation process, location of study; education for students with special needs and disabilities; administration and secretariats. The present study analyses these queries in order to facilitate the smooth insertion of students into the academic environment and increase student retention.
