Crowd sourcing of public transport problems

We study a seat allocation problem in public transportation with potential seating restrictions. We first demonstrate that the commonly used procedure suffers from significant drawbacks, including welfare losses due to unfilled seats. We then introduce a new mechanism that addresses these deficiencies while also satisfying several other desirable properties under various seating restrictions. We also show that our proposed mechanism ensures that the maximum number of agents are seated while respecting agents' preferences and priority rankings.

One of the problems in public transportation is the vehicle scheduling problem (VSP), which can reduce the bus company cost and meet the demand of passengers’ minimum waiting time. This paper proposes an ensemble differential algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (abbreviated as PSOEDE) to solve the VSP. In PSOEDE algorithm, the mutation process is designed by dividing the original process into two parts: the first part combines the PSO operator with the improved mutation strategy to enhance the global search ability, while the second part is to randomly select two mutation strategies (i.e. random learning and optimal learning) to improve the diversity of population. In addition, the random selection methods of the parameters and crossover strategies are proposed and applied in the total PSOEDE algorithm. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed PSOEDE algorithm in dealing with the VSP are verified using the simulation experiments and six comparison algorithms.

While transport infrastructure and travel demand are known to be correlated, their causal relationship has not been systematically investigated. Granger causality tests have been conducted in the context of transport infrastructure and economic growth, and land use and transport. This research extends their application to network investments and travel demand by examining the co-evolution of public transport access and ridership in the Greater Sydney region for a period spanning over a century, from 1855 onward. We hypothesise a mutual feedback between public transport ridership and access, and corroborate the hypothesis in all causal models estimated – between aggregate public transport ridership and access, station ridership and access, and mesh block public transport shares and access. The causality was more evident in disaggregate models and was stronger between ridership and access to jobs than with access to population when employment data were available. Ours is the first longitudinal investigation into the causal relationship between public transport access and ridership. The findings strengthen the case for using access as a planning measure and lay the groundwork for evolutionary strategic transport modelling.

This article presents the results of public and private (car) transport accessibility modelling, which gives the room for the comparison of two types of transport throughout the whole day as well as the rush hours. Both public and private transport models are based on public available data, accessible via the Internet which is downloaded using a programming language and processed using the GIS tools. The public transport model is based on the GTFS data (General Transit Feed Specification), while the car model has been created from data on driving times derived from Google Maps® API. Both models presented in the article have been constructed for a specified period of time, namely from 5.00 am to 10.00 pm in 15-min intervals. The analysis of the above-mentioned models has allowed the comparison of differences in potential accessibility and its deviations at different times of the day. The disparities revealed by the study have indicated that there are certain times of the day when public transport is actually competitive with the private means of transport. The results of potential accessibility analysis are visualised with the use of maps, including the choropleth ones.

Public transportation issues are increasingly becoming a key constraint to the sustainable development of urban economic and social development. Based on crowd big data and GIS spatial analysis methods, this article analyzes the accessibility of the public transportation in Wansheng Economic and Technological Development Zone (hereinafter referred to as the development zone). A comprehensive evaluation and analysis was conducted to study the matching relationship between population density and existing public transportation stations, and to propose the optimal suggestions. The results show that the overall public transportation accessibility in the development zone is average level, and the public transportation accessibility is better in the densest crowded areas, but in the east and southeast of the development zone, crowd activities are poorly matched with the public transportation network, and residents’ travel demands can’t get public transportation with timely responses.

In this paper, a multi-objective scenario based mathematical model is presented for the capacitated hub location problem in public transportation considering economic and investment aspects. Three objective functions are regarded in the presented mathematical model. The first one aims to minimise the total costs considering the possibility of investing the unused budget at each period. The second one aims to minimise the total processing time in the hub network at each period. The last one aims to minimise the maximum distance between each pair of origin-destination nodes in the network. To solve the model, three multi-objective meta-heuristic algorithms are developed, namely S metric selection evolutionary multi-objective optimisation algorithm (SMS-EMOA), multi-objective imperialist competitive algorithm (MOICA) and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II). Finally, developed algorithms are compared to each other based on several comparison measures using a relatively novel statistical approach.

With the accelerating industrialization and urbanization in China, the pressure on resources and environment is serious. To promote development of low carbon, to alleviate the pressure on resources and environment, improve the quality and efficiency, developments in a new direction are being conducted. Rail transit as a public transport system is an important part of urban transportation, called aorta. Low carbon economic development is the most effective booster for the public transport system. Rail transit has several advantages namely environmental protection, energy saving, “green traffic”. A vigorous development in rail transit consequently promotes the development of effective ways of using low carbon and also improves the ability of testing and aids in government's control in urban transportation system. At present, rail transport priority strategy is chosen as the consensus for urban development in nearly thirty cities has been implemented. Since 2006 Xi'an subway construction has been in full swing and was began after the fourth anniversary of the first line. For nearly six dynasties the geographical center of China was Beijing and Shanghai, Xi'an has been approved as a center. A third country as an international metropolis would become the future “triangle”. for the development of metropolis circle and super speed the prospect of the rail transit as public transport is required. This is essential for passengers that are 50% of the population. The rail transit system can certainly make Xi'an, the third international metropolis in the next 10 years. All that is to be followed is the Chinese practice of urban rail transit construction. Subways and light rails reflect the current high science and technology development level, and solve the fundamental problem of urban public transportation. Xi'an subway's sustainable development from being a historical city to a future metropolis has important significance.

Associations of public transport accessibility with walking, obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes

Problem. Mining and processing plants, along with a metallurgical plant, serve as the primary destinations and origins for work trips in Kryvyi Rih. The transport and pedestrian accessibility of public transport (PT) and its stops in these industrial areas are crucial, particularly given the city's linear planning structure characterized by scattered mining districts and economic activities concentrated along the main transport axis. Despite the extensive body of literature focused on PT accessibility, there has yet to be a study specifically examining the accessibility of PT for mining districts within a city that features a linear and dispersed planning structure. Goal. The aim of this study is to perform a comprehensive analysis of public transport accessibility (PTA) as an indicator of transport supply for the mining districts (zones) within the city’s linearly dispersed urban structure. Methodology. The methodology for this comprehensive analysis of PTA relies on transport modeling using PTV Visum software, along with the collection of baseline data to evaluate shifts in transport demand in Kryvyi Rih from 2021 to 2024. Five zones with the highest job concentrations, as defined by Ukrainian Classification of Economic Activities B, were identified. PTA indicators were calculated for both the zones and their serving stops, with travel time set as the primary accessibility criterion, analysed through a comparison of accessibility isochrones. Given the large spatial extent of the mining zones, pedestrian accessibility to these stops is proposed to be evaluated based on the length of PT connectors and the area of each zone within the model. Originality. The study introduces, for the first time, the "limited accessibility of stops" indicator, defined as the ratio of the length of PT connectors to the area of the corresponding zones within the model. This indicator aims to account for the pedestrian accessibility of mining district's stops. Practical value. Proposed practical measures aim to enhance PT efficiency in terms of accessibility within a city characterized by a linearly dispersed planning structure.

Background: Active commuters have lower risk of chronic disease. Understanding which of the, to some extent, modifiable characteristics of public transportation that facilitate its use is thus important in a public health perspective. The aim of the study was to examine the association between individual public transportation accessibility and self-reported active commuting, and whether the associations varied with commute distance, age, and gender.Methods: Twenty-eight thousand nine hundred twenty-eight commuters in The Capital Region of Denmark reported self-reported time spent either walking or cycling to work or study each day and the distance to work or study. Data were obtained from the Danish National Health Survey collected in February to April 2010. Individual accessibility by public transportation was calculated using a multi-modal network in a GIS. Multilevel logistic regression was used to analyze the association between accessibility, expressed as access area, and being an active commuter.Results: Public transport accessibility area based on all stops within walking and cycling distance was positively associated with being an active commuter. Distance to work, age, and gender modified the associations. Residing within 10 km commute distance and in areas of high accessibility was associated with being an active commuter and meeting the recommendations of physical activity. For the respondents above 29 years, individual public transportation accessibility was positively associated with being an active commuter. Women having high accessibility had significantly higher odds of being an active commuter compared to having a low accessibility. For men, the associations were insignificant.Conclusion: This study extends the knowledge about the driving forces of using public transportation for commuting by examining the individual public transportation accessibility. Findings suggest that transportation accessibility supports active commuting and planning of improved public transit accessibility has thus a potential of providing health benefits to commuters.

Public transportation is widely considered more attractive in developed countries compared to developing countries, primarily due to its level of service performance, and the influencing factors vary depending on the characteristics of the place and the community. Meanwhile, passenger loyalty is essential to increase the demand for public transportation. This research aims to investigate the impact of service performance and passenger satisfaction on passenger loyalty to public bus transportation in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The research was conducted on six Trans Koetaradja Bus corridors that connect the city and its surrounding areas, and the data was analyzed using the multiple regression method with SPSS. The results showed that that service performance and passenger satisfaction had an impact on passenger loyalty, with a correlation coefficient of 0.563. However, the determination value (R2) was only 0.317, indicating that only 31.7% of the service performance and passenger satisfaction affected passenger loyalty to the Trans Koetaradja bus. The remaining 68.3% were influenced by other variables. Meanwhile, the low contribution of service performance and passenger satisfaction was likely due to the fact that Trans Koetaradja passengers have private vehicles, which are considered more efficient. This can be seen from the respondents' trip frequency of only 1-2 times a week. To address this issue, integrated and accessible public transportation and mixeduse urban planning are needed in Banda Aceh to improve travel duration. It is hoped that these results can improve the public interest and loyalty to public transportation in their daily activities.

Статтю присвячено значенню підприємств комунального транспорту у формуванні та розвитку інвестиційної активності нашої держави. Визначені різні теоретичні підходи до трактування поняття «інвестиційна активність». Доведено, що інвестиційна активність підприємств комунального транспорту – це інтенсивність залучення додаткових коштів в об’єкти комунальної транспортної інфраструктури. Проаналізовано динаміку перевезень пасажирів за видами транспорту загального користування по Україні і виявлено їх значну роль у житті кожного українського міста. В статті також визначено ключові перешкоди в розвитку інвестиційної активності громадського комунального транспорту України, до числа яких належать територіальні, організаційні, операційні і фінансові. Виявлено передумови їх виникнення, а також оцінено можливості їх прояву. Наприкінці роботи систематизовані напрями активізації інвестиційної активності комунального транспорту в Україні: формування інструментарію державно-приватного партнерства, використання механізму фінансового лізингу для оновлення парку вагонів електротранспорту, впровадження автоматизованих систем контролю проїзду (АСКП), реструктуризація транспортних підприємств шляхом їх акціонування, впровадження адресного субсидування пасажирів, впровадження системи інтермодальних пасажирських перевезень, впровадження автоматизованих систем диспетчерського регулювання та навігації. Отже, забезпечуючи комплексну та одночасну реалізацію зазначених заходів, буде можливим реальне сприяння суттєвому поліпшенню стану справ такої соціо-економіко-екологічної сфери народного господарства, як громадський комунальний транспорт. Статья посвящена значению предприятий коммунального транспорта в формировании и развитии инвестиционной активности нашего государства. Определены различные теоретические подходы к трактовке понятия «инвестиционная активность». Доказано, что инвестиционная активность предприятий коммунального транспорта - это интенсивность привлечения дополнительных средств в объекты коммунальной транспортной инфраструктуры. Проанализирована динамика перевозок пассажиров по видам транспорта общего пользования по Украине и выявлена их значительная роль в жизни каждого украинского города. В статье также определены ключевые проблемы в развитии инвестиционной активности общественного коммунального транспорта Украины, к числу которых относятся территориальные, организационные, операционные и финансовые. Выявлены предпосылки их возникновения, а также оценены возможности их проявления. В конце работы систематизированы направления активизации инвестиционной активности коммунального транспорта в Украине: формирование инструментария государственно-частного партнерства, использование механизма финансового лизинга для обновления парка вагонов электротранспорта, внедрение автоматизированных систем контроля проезда (АСКП), реструктуризация транспортных предприятий путем их акционирования, внедрения адресного субсидирования пассажиров, внедрение системы интермодальных пассажирских перевозок, внедрение автоматизированных систем диспетчерского регулирования и навигации. Таким образом, обеспечивая комплексную и одновременную реализацию указанных мероприятий, будет возможным реальное содействие существенному улучшению состояния дел такой социо-экономико-экологической сферы народного хозяйства, как общественный коммунальный транспорт. This article is dedicated to the importance of transport utilities in the formation and development of activities of our country. Defined different theoretical approaches to the interpretation of the term investment activity. It is proved that activity utilities transport - is the intensity of additional funds into objects of communal transport infrastructure. The dynamics of passenger transportation modes of public transport in Ukraine and found their significant role in the life of every Ukrainian city. The paper also identifies key problems of public utilities Transport of Ukraine, which include territorial, organizational, operational and financial. Revealed conditions of their occurrence, and evaluated their possible manifestation. At the end of systematic trends of reforming the current system of municipal transport in Ukraine: forming tools PPP, usage of machinery financial leasing for renovating the electric cars, the introduction of automated control systems fare (ASKP), restructuring transportation companies through their shareholding, introducing targeted subsidies passengers introduction of intermodal passenger transport, the introduction of automated dispatch control and navigation. Thus, providing a comprehensive and simultaneous implementation of these measures will be possible to promote real substantial improvements of such socio-economic and environmental spheres of the economy, as public municipal transport

We present a game-theoretic model for the line planning problem in public transportation, in which each line acts as player. Each player aims to minimize its own delay, which is dependent on the traffic load along its edges. We show that there exists a line plan at equilibrium, which minimizes the probability of delays of the transportation system. This result is achieved by showing that a potential function exists. Numerical results using close-to-real world data in the LinTim framework clearly show that our method indeed produces delay-resistant line concepts.

Separation of cycle inequalities in periodic timetabling

Many places in Indonesia have developed into attractive tourist destinations for visitors. One of the tourist destinations that has recently gained rapid development and attention from tourists is the city of Bogor. Bogor has evolved into a highly sought-after destination for both domestic and international tourists. However, the biggest challenge for the development of a tourist destination lies in the availability of well-connected public transportation and easily accessible information about public transportation for tourists. As Bogor has grown into a tourist destination, the researcher aims to understand how the availability of public transportation and the dissemination of information are handled for tourists visiting the city. This study will be grounded in the perspective of tourism communication, utilizing the concept of tourism transportation communication. The research methodology involves a case study with interviews and literature review as data sources. Through this research, it is hoped to provide insights and understanding of transportation policies in Bogor and how information about public transportation can be effectively communicated to tourists. The results of the study indicate that the development of the tourism sector in Bogor has been accompanied by the city government's commitment to providing comfortable public transportation and comprehensive information for tourists utilizing public transportation
