Interactive Systems and the Model–View–Controller Architecture

We describe our approach to teaching the MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture for GUI applications. Swing adopts MVC at component level. We use it as a case study to illustrate features of MVC and also help students learn to use the tool for programming projects. To encourage them to see beyond a specific tool, we assign students a project to build a domain-specific framework for GUI applications using MVC at application level. This project allows students to learn hands on the MVC architecture as well as other design techniques in a new context. Our two-semester experience shows that a tool-based case study with a follow-up effort as such is productive in teaching practical design techniques.

Ethics in digital resource processing and access are strongly coupled with human computer interaction because they produce trust between user and system. Over the past decades, we have seen a rapid increase of digital born resources in business applications where i.e. different stakeholders, ranging from patients, doctors to Data Scientists must cope with ethical aspects and regulations. Amongst others, innovative Model View Controller (MVC) based data management systems in the healthcare sector are analysing and managing an ever-growing, vast amount of sensitive data, enabling its efficient and comprehensive use in decision-making processes. E.g. in data-driven collaboration processes like drug development, caregiving or clinical patient monitoring. MVC is one of the most popular architectural patterns (Holzinger et.al 2010), which is the reason to investigate this design pattern further in terms of ethical aspects within human computer intractable systems. However, new regulations, like the GDPR have a huge impact on sensitive data management. However, ethical regulations could not first be considered by those who make use of information system functionalities, but must be an inherent part of considerations during software development process. This short paper will bring up and discuss ethical issues in decision making systems system software development, along with an existing ethic by design framework in the scope of health-related research projects.

In the current teaching of politics, teachers still focus on the cultivation of the basic intelligence of students’ language intelligence, and it is easy to ignore the cultivation of other intelligences that affect the overall development of students. This research mainly discusses the design of curriculum ideological and political teaching platform based on the fusion of multiple data and information in an intelligent environment. This research adopts the MVC architecture, and the web application developed based on the MVC (Model View Controller) architecture pattern is easier to complete the realization of multiple controllers. The front desk ideological and political teaching teacher module includes the login system. In addition, the teacher can view the test status of a specific student and can also pay attention to the total intelligence of all students who have been tested. The process of the student test is to enter the correct account and password to log in to the system and then perform the test. After the test, the test result can be viewed, and the personal information can be maintained at the same time. In addition, the personal login password can be modified. The existence of the database is to ensure that the data is correct and effective. This system uses MySql to design the database, and the name of the database is braintest_db. The data table in relational database is the main object of storing and managing data, and it is also an important task of database design. This system has designed three kinds of user logins, namely, administrator, student, and teacher, and login can be realized according to the account number and password. Among them, teacher’s participation is by inquiring about students’ test situation, paying attention to students’ multiple intelligences, and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude. In addition, the main object of this test is students, and the analysis of multiple intelligences is realized through student tests. Students are vitally physical objects that can be tested and searched for results. In the study, 20% of the students both learn the basic content of the platform and use the forum. This research will help improve students’ literacy in an all‐round way.

Object-oriented architectures for Graphical User Interfaces (GUI’s) model the interface as a composition of interacting Objects which each present an internal state to the user and provide operations on that state. Two such architectures are Model-View-Controller (MVC) and Presentation-Abstraction-Control (PAC).We use Object-Z to describe examples of the MVC and PAC architectures. We compare the characteristics of the architectures and consider the efficacy of Object-Z as a tool for modelling user-interface architectures.

There is a lot of routine work in any organization, including in recruitment agencies. Effective management organization and automation of activities of employees of recruiting agencies is not an easy task. The system should automate the routine actions of workers of recruiting agencies and be convenient for their clients. This paper proposes an approach to automating the selection of necessary medical staff. Not all information systems used by recruiting agencies can compare candidates and generate results that include several of the best candidates. Based on the analysis of the subject area, groups of parameters that significantly affect the choice of medical personnel were determined. The proposed approach is to analyze the request from the client, and then in the system find requests of other clients similar to it in terms of parameters, for which a candidate has already been found. The next step is to take the profiles of healthcare professionals that have been suggested for these requests (they act as benchmarks) to further compare them with existing candidates. Each employee profile parameter has its own similarity function. Available candidates will receive scores and will be ranked. We also additionally adjust the assessment by comparing candidates with the current request. Software was developed to automate the selection of medical personnel. For its implementation, a three-level client-server architecture is proposed. MVC (Model View Controller) architecture was chosen for the server part. The Single Page Application architectural template is used for the client part. The server part is divided into three layers, which further demarcate and structure the responsibilities of the system components. .NET technologies are used to implement business logic. SQL Server is used for the server and database provider. The use of the software implementation of the developed system demonstrated quite good results. The average time for selecting the 10 best candidates out of 500 is 0.4 seconds, and the processing of only 1 resume by a person takes several minutes.

The Tuition Payment Information System was designed because at this time the payment of tuition at SMP Islam Cilacap still uses the general ledger, causing inaccuracies in payment data by employees (administrative). The purpose of this research is to help solve problems in the processing of tuition payment data, making payment data reports, searching payment data, knowing payment data information, and knowing the school money payment report. The system is designed using MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture and SMS Gateway notifications as well as system development methods using System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with Waterfall model. In addition, the system design uses PHP and HTML programming languages, database management is MySQL and uses the Laravel framework. Based on the results of the system test and the results of the questionnaire by 10 respondents that 14% stated enough, 44% stated well and 42% stated very well calculated by the calculation of the Likert scale of 86% entered the excellent qualification which means successful. So it can be concluded that this system can solve existing problems by facilitating the processing of payment data, assisting in the creation of school money payment reports, helping in speeding up the search for payment data, knowing the payment information of tuition without having to come to school, and knowing the payment data report quickly without having to go through a long recap process.

This paper presents an intuitive end-to-end interaction system between a human and a hexacopter Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for field exploration in which the UAV can be commanded by natural human poses. Moreover, LEDs installed on the UAV are used to communicate the state and intents of the UAV to the human as feedback throughout the interaction. A real time multi-human pose estimation system is built that can perform with low latency while maintaining competitive performance. The UAV is equipped with a robotic arm, kinematic and dynamic attitude models for which are provided by introducing the center of gravity (COG) of the vehicle. In addition, a super-twisting extended state observer (STESO)-based back-stepping controller (BSC) is constructed to estimate and attenuate complex disturbances in the attitude control system of the UAV, such as wind gusts, model uncertainties, etc. A stability analysis for the entire control system is also presented based on the Lyapunov stability theory. The pose estimation system is integrated with the proposed intelligent control architecture to command the UAV to execute an exploration task stably. Additionally, all the components of this interaction system are described. Several simulations and experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the whole system and its individual components.

Modern software applications store their data in remote cloud servers. Users interact with these applications using web browsers or thin clients running on mobile devices. A key concern for these applications is the correctness of the actions that update the data store, which are triggered by user requests. Considering that modern applications store and manage data for millions (even billions) of users, misuse or loss of user data can have catastrophic consequences. In this paper, we focus on automated discovery of data store bugs in applications that use development frameworks that are RESTful, enforce the Model–View–Controller architecture, and use Object Relational Mapping libraries to manipulate data. We present a formal data model for data stores and data store manipulation in such applications. We have developed a framework for verification of data models via translation to First Order Logic (FOL), followed by automated theorem proving. Due to the undecidability of FOL, this automated approach does not always produce a conclusive answer. We investigate the use of many-sorted logic in data model verification in order to improve the effectiveness of this approach. Many-sorted logic allows us to specify type information explicitly, thus lightening the burden of reasoning about type information during theorem proving. Our experimental results demonstrate that our verification approach is scalable to real-world web applications and is able to detect bugs in them.

True multi-user, multimodal interaction over a digital table lets co-located people simultaneously gesture and speak commands to control an application. We explore this design space through a case study, where we implemented an application that supports the KJ creativity method as used by industrial designers. Four key design issues emerged that have a significant impact on how people would use such a multi-user multimodal system. First, parallel work is affected by the design of multimodal commands. Second, individual mode switches can be confusing to collaborators, especially if speech commands are used. Third, establishing personal and group territories can hinder particular tasks that require artefact neutrality. Finally, timing needs to be considered when designing joint multimodal commands. We also describe our model view controller architecture for true multi-user multimodal interaction.

This work is about the relevance of Gibson's concept of affordances [1] for visual perception in interactive and autonomous robotic systems. In extension to existing functional views on visual feature representations, we identify the importance of learning in perceptual cueing for the anticipation of opportunities for interaction of robotic agents. We investigate how the originally defined representational concept for the perception of affordances - in terms of using either optical flow or heuristically determined 3D features of perceptual entities - should be generalized to using arbitrary visual feature representations. In this context we demonstrate the learning of causal relationships between visual cues and predictable interactions, and emphasize on a novel framework for cueing and hypothesis verification of affordances that could play an important role in future robot control architectures. We argue that affordance based perception should enable systems to react to environment stimuli both more efficient and autonomous, and provide a potential to plan on the basis of responses to more complex perceptual configurations. We verify the concept with a concrete implementation applying state-of-the-art visual descriptors and regions of interest within a simulated robot scenario and prove that these features were successfully selected for predicting opportunities of robot interaction.

BackgroundResearchers working in the area of Public Health are being confronted with large volumes of data on various aspects of entomology and epidemiology. To obtain the relevant information out of these data requires particular database management system. In this paper, we have described about the usages of our developed database on lymphatic filariasis.MethodsThis database application is developed using Model View Controller (MVC) architecture, with MySQL as database and a web based interface. We have collected and incorporated the data on filariasis in the database from Karimnagar, Chittoor, East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh, India.ConclusionThe importance of this database is to store the collected data, retrieve the information and produce various combinational reports on filarial aspects which in turn will help the public health officials to understand the burden of disease in a particular locality. This information is likely to have an imperative role on decision making for effective control of filarial disease and integrated vector management operations.
